Coaching...Peyton and Eli...Exercise

Sep 14 | Posted by: Bill Whyte |

Tuesday morning and is has yet to cool off much here in Nashville. But today we'll get a little rain which will drop the high tomorrow of just 79 comfortable degrees.

It was a lazy start to the week here at the Whyte House with nothing on the calendar. I’m not great at doing absolutely nothing so I wrote a little on my own, prepared for a coaching thing I’m doing later today for someone getting ready to go in studio and record looking for someone to eyeball her lyrics and help her make sure those songs are really teed up and ready to go.

Then last night I caught a pretty dang good opening Monday Night Football game between the Raiders and Ravens that the Raiders won at the end. The best part of it was watching the game on ESPN 2 and not the regular broadcast. On ESPN 2 Peyton and Eli Manning called the game from their homes with special guests popping in like Ray Lewis and Charles Barkley. It was VERY entertaining with the brothers teasing each other and trash talking like borthers will do, and covering the game like two Quarterbacks would do. I can’t remember the last time I enjoyed a football game more on TV. I don’t think I can go back now to a traditional “call of the game” after watching that.

Yesterday the Consumer Brands Association the President more than 50 questions about the new vaccine rule of forced vaccination if you want to work. Lot of folks. On the surface businesses could be fined $14,000 for not requiring their employees to get the jab. Not everyone is happy about it of course.

Meanwhile here in Tennessee? We have the highest amount of Covid cases in the US. Not an enviable record to hold.

Scientists are saying, at least for now, “Not so fast” on getting a booster shot.

Some dining room service is slowing down because of the Delta variant. McDonald’s, and Chik-fil-A are two of those. Some restaurants are once again trying to increase outdoor dining. Gonna be hard to make that work in Minot North Dakota come winter.

And get this. UPS is saying order your Christmas stuff right now as they expect delays in getting raw materials and products from other countries with low vaccination rates because their ports may or will close backing up everything. I may have to regift this year.

The Price is Right is celebrating 50 years. 50 years someone has been yelling “come on down”! How many contestants would that amount to over 50 years? Ask the person next to you if they’ve been on the show.

A study from Well and Good claims that 60 seconds of exercise makes up for 14 minutes of sitting. Cool. But to break even I think I’ll need to exercise at least an hour every day. My office chair loves me too much during the day, and my couch won’t let me go in the evening. Sigh.

A new health study claims that exercise reduces long-term risk of anxiety disorders in both men and women. Not sure about that as I get anxious when I even think about working out. What do they do for me?

I know exercise is designed to make one feel healthier and look more attractive. But I’m a believer in this song Brent Burns recorded that we wrote together, “Exercise Makes Me Look Good Naked, But So Does Beer”.  Now that I think about it, I have a six pack of beer in the fridge, but no other six-pack. Can’t figure that out.

Tucker Carlson of Fox? He admits he lies but that he TRIES not to lie on TV. Okay then. Remember folks. Talk show hosts are paid to get ratings and have a loud opinion whether there’s any truth to it or not. Take your truth with a grain of salt unless you have high cholesterol of course.

I love this one from the late comedian Henny Youngman who once said, “Some people ask the secret of our long marriage. We take time to go to a restaurant twice a week. A little candlelight, dinner, soft music, and dancing. She goes on Tuesdays; I go on Fridays”.

And then there’s this great marriage quote from the American poet Ogden Nash. “To keep your marriage brimming with love in the loving cup, whenever you’re wrong, admit it. Whenever you’re right, shut up”.

I have that coaching thing I’m doing today that I mentioned at the top of the blog. Hard to imagine that folks want my advice on songs but I’m always happy to try and help someone if I can. Today it’s a young lady from Indiana I’m working with. So it will be a Hoosier kind of day for me.

Have a great Tuesday!
