Gatlinburg Trip...Italy Trip...Oscar Weekend

Sun is peeking up over our lake...and the Bradford pear tree has blossomed making for a pretty "good morning" view down our driveway.  50 for a high today....and tonight I'll be in the Smoky Mountains where the low will dip into the 20's.  Long sleeves being tucked into my suitcase.

Couple things got added to my calendar.  First...I'll be in a songwriters round tomorrow night (Saturday) at Crystelle Creek Restaurant in Gatlinburg which is a very cool place with GREAT food.  Me, Brady Seals and my "Hits & Grins" trio partners Steve Dean and Victoria Venier will play an acoustic round that will officially wrap up our "Write With The Pros" weekend taking place today and tomorrow at the historic Gatlinburg Inn.  We write at 7 pm this evening and then once more at 10 AM tomorrow morning with a group of folks who have signed up to be part of this experience sponsored by the Smoky Mt. Songwriters Festival which happens every August.  Looking forward to it.

And...I added three mornings on WSM Radio filling in for the regular host Bill Cody.  That will be March 12, 13 and 14 from 5:30-10 AM each morning heard worldwide at wsmonline.com and you can watch the show on Heartland TV which you can access online at watchheartlandtv.com.  And...I do know that Moe Bandy will be a special guest in studio Monday morning to promote a book he's got out.  So...tune in to hear "Bandy The Rodeo Clown".

The nominees came out yesterday for the Academy of Country Music Awards which will take place April 15 in Vegas...and...Reba will host this year.  I'm betting the ranch that Colonel Sanders will make an appearance.

Chris Stapleton and Thomas Rhett got the most nominations.  I was happy to see a young lady from Northern Kentucky who I've written with a couple of time get nominated for "Best New Female"...and that would be Carly Pearce.  Congrats to you girl!

It's always a bit surreal when you know someone and then see the world start to discover the talent you heard in a writing room.  And that also makes me think of another friend Karen Taylor Good who was once nominated for the same award many years ago.  I bring her up because Karen and I wrote a song called "I'm Going Under" which is a powerful song about baptism that my friend Linda Davis recorded a few years ago (and her daughter Hillary got an ACM nomination too with Lady A for "Best Group")...but now Darin and Brooke Aldridge have just recorded it too and it's really terrific.  It will be released as a gospel bluegrass single later this month and I can't wait for folks to hear this.

Congrats to all the ACM nominees.

Not surprised to hear that those little digital voice deals like Alexa will soon let you order what you want just by speaking it.  "Alexa...I need a pair of blue jeans with wholes in the knees that I can barely fit into".  And then Alexa will do all the work and then those jeans will show up at your door with a complimentary shoehorn to help you squeeze into them.  Or something close to that.

How about this shot of Venice in the snow?  A lot of Europe got some surprise snow which makes it look even more fascinating.  It will be long gone by the time I see the Gondolas in Venice and the Coliseum in Rome come early October on my little tour with Brent Burns that I'm so looking forward to.  The tour has been sold out for weeks now...but...we'll have about 50 folks going along on our trek through Rome, Florence, Pisa, Venice and other places.  And Brent and I will pack guitars to entertain those folks a few time while we're over there.

I was a fan of "Orange County Choppers" on TV with Paul Tuetel and his son he battled with loudly.  That show is coming back and maybe the reason is that Paul Tuetel just declared bankruptcy...which is hard to believe considering how many expensive custom bikes they've built in New York.  A little TV money may help keep the wolf from the door and buy him a new tattoo or two.

NFL great Jim Kelly has mouth cancer...again.  It's back.  Man...cancer sucks.  He's one of the really nice guys in football and has been a positive influence to many.  I can only hope he beats it again.

Quentin Tarantino is teeing up a movie about Charles Manson.  Both Brad Pitt and Leo DiCaprio are on board.  Going to be a hard movie to watch I would think...even with those two great actors in it.

The Oscars are on Sunday night after I get back from Gatlinburg.  Today a hairstylist to the stars claims that most of the hair we see on the actresses will be "fake" hair.  Shock.  Hard to spot the fake hair most of the time because of some of the other parts that are fake...I think.

Road trip...I 40 East to Gatlinburg.  Have a great weekend!
