Serious Songs...Love Songs...Artificial Intelligence

Jan 9 | Posted by: Bill Whyte |

Thursday morning and we’re bracing for quite a bit of rain…if you believe the guy making rain predictions.

YESTERDAY

I enjoyed getting to know Aaron Wilburn yesterday as we co-wrote together for the second time.  The first time we wrote with a young Aussie artist we both knew but never had time to really get to know each other.  Aaron is noted in the Christian comedy world (yes there is such a thing) but he’s also a great songwriter period.  Two funny guys in one room and of course we write something non-funny.  Go figure.  But Aaron brought an idea to the table that he’s written quite a bit of…an old school kind of thought that was really great.  So I found a melody for it and helped shape the lyrics some and we had a song.

Aaron grew up as I did…small and in the country and that showed in one of the lyrics on his page about how his Mama kept the used bacon grease in an old fruit jar on the back of the stove.  Lord, those were the days.  Save everything.  As I remember my Mom saved her old grease in a coffee can that sat on the back of the stove.

So a really good fun time with Aaron and we’ll be doing more writing together in the future.  And I’m sure there’s a funny song coming from one of those.

TOURISM

Nashville is so busy…so many tourists.  Last year over 15 million tourists came here.  A lot of those folks were on Lower Broadway hitting the honkytonks, some rode in hot tubs pulled by tractors right down Broadway.  It’s a thang.  And 1.3 million of those folks paid a visit to the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum that’s always included on my list of at least 10 things to see in Nashville.  And this April my friend Steve Dean and I will play a songwriters show for those tourists in that Hall of Fame in the beautiful Ford Theater.  The show is free with your museum ticket.

If you want to look ahead and make a visit here…our date there is Saturday April 18.  It’s a 45-minute show starting at 11:30 in the morning that has the two of us singing three songs apiece and taking questions from the tourists in the room…one of my favorite parts of the event.  Come see us.

PANIC

Already there are ads reminding us that Valentine Day is the next thing we need to lay our dollars down for. Always too much pressure for us guys trying to get her something she’ll really like. Don’t buy her a kitchen appliance unless you like sleeping on your couch.  Don’t ask me how I know.

SPEAKING OF LOVE

GAC, the Great American Country TV network just released their list of the top 40 Country Love Songs All Time.  #1 is “I Need You” by Tim and Faith.  I can’t believe the song “I Miss You Baby But My Aims Getting Better” did not make the list.  Sigh.  If you’re curious here’s the GAC LIST.

CANCER

Some hopeful news.  Cancer deaths are decreasing.  Down 2.2% from 2016-17. And since 1991 it’s decreased over 20%.  Hope that we may see cancer eliminated while we’re still here…or while our children are still here.  Here’s to that.

THE FUTURE

Mark Cuban the ka-Billionaire addressed all the geeky folk in Vegas at the Electronic Show there.  He told the gathering to invest big in AI technology…artificial intelligence.  He says get on board with it or your business and you will become a dinosaur.  It makes me glad I’m not running a business.  I still struggle getting Netflix to work on my TV.

He actually said this too, “If you don’t know AI, you’re the equivalent of somebody in 1999 saying ‘I’m sure this internet thing will be OK but I don’t give a shit”.

We live in a world of get on or get off the train if you want to flourish in business.  I’m pretty sure I’m ahead of that curve as people tell me that they think my intelligence is already artificial.

DOUBLE OUCH

How bout the story of the woman in West Palm Beach, Florida who gave birth to a set of twin boys in March of 2019 and then another set of twins AGAIN in December of the same year?  You have a much better chance of winning the Powerball than having that happen.  And now with two sets of twins the parents may very well need to hit the dang Powerball to raise them.

TODAY

Nothing huge on my calendar today.  Temps are in the low 60’s here on January 9!  A chance to get outside a bit today.

Have a great Thursday.
